PictureLife has been acquired – bye bye!

Oh…. great.

Today, I am excited to announce that Picturelife has been acquired by StreamNation, giving you and your photos a safe and secure future with a company we’ve come to know and love – one you’re sure to love as well.

So, is this good or bad? Probably bad. I liked Picturelife because it gave a means to organise my photos without having to be locked in for good – I could export my photos with all added metadata attached.

However, it seems that the model just isn’t sustainable – small company after small company adds this as a competitive differentiator, but doesn’t last. It seems a picture service MUST lock you in to survive (or maybe that doesn’t work either).

Probably a better bet is a service that provides storage primarily, and decent picture management as a value-add – services like Dropbox, or Google (yeah, I know).

So – we’ll see what happens to PictureLife’s service. And look for another contender.
